Making Cabinets Taller

I’ve always dreamed of a kitchen with marble counters and back-splash, tall cabinets with a lot of molding and old school character with wall moldings.  I’ve been working on the kitchen for the last few weekends, you can see the board and batten wall I did a few weekends ago here  and the new air return vent I made here.  Last weekend I started building a bench it’s almost done just have to decide on the stain I want to use for the wood top.  This weekends project is the kitchen cabinets!  I’m saying good bye to the standard builder grade cabinets and saying hello to custom looking ones!  The cabinets are getting a make over with paint, height and moldings to give them a more custom look, next weekend the refrigerator surround will be started.  Here is the start to making cabinets taller!

Before we get to the cabinet photos here’s a quick review of the last few weekends projects, In this photo you can see the board and batten, the bench and the air return vent that have been done.

It’s pretty amazing how the height of your cabinets make your room feel.  Standing in the kitchen if you look at the cabinet that now go up to the ceiling on the left the whole room feels taller, if you look at the cabinets on the right without the added height the room feels shorter.  It’s pretty crazy standing in one spot looking back and forth, you feel shorter when looking at the tall cabinets and feel taller when you look at the short cabinets, hmmm I guess feeling shorter in this case is definitely worth it lol!  Making cabinets taller has been on my to do list for a while now, I’m so excited to have finally started this!
