I love anything made with plumbers pipe. Ever since I made my plumbers pipe bench I have had a slight obsession with using it in other projects! I used some plumbers pipe when I made my crank table last year too! The challenge myself and my blogging friends used for this knock off tour was to find something on pinterest that we liked and make our own version of it. Not hard to do since one could spend days drooling over images on pinterest! I knew I wanted to do something with plumbers pipe for my challenge and when I saw a couple of DIY Industrial Paper Towel Holder projects I knew that was what I wanted to do for this knockoff tour!
My inspiration came from Taryn of Design Dining Diapers (she has a style that I absolutely love!).
This has got to be one of the easiest projects I have ever done. The supplies I used are:
scrap piece of wood
1 – 3/4″ 12″ pipe1 – 3/4″ flange
1 – 3/4″ connector
Stain & 4 Screws
To start I grabbed some scrap wood in the basement cut it down to roughly 6″ square, sanded the wood then used some left over stain. The next day I screwed the flange onto the piece of wood, screwed the pipe to the flange, put the paper towel roll on and screwed on a connector at the top. I wanted to use materials I already had on hand hence why I didn’t use a T connector on the top like was used in my inspiration photo.
When I was making this industrial paper towel holder I thought the holder would make an awesome photo frame holder too, so I made a second one and attached a frame I had already on hand. To attach the frame to the plumbers pipe I used some twine and a conduit pipe clip. You could use screws and screw the conduit pipe clip to the back of the frame but I wanted to easily swap the photo out in the frame so I opted for twine instead.
I ended up making two projects from my inspiration project! Not sure which I’m loving more the paper towel holder or the photo frame holder!
Don’t forget to check out what my amazing blogging friends have done for their knockoff challenge too! You can see all their projects below!
You know what, as a former on-again off-again plumbing contractor, I have to say I’m a little ashamed I never thought of this. I’ve used plumber’s pipe for any number of things – including an awesomely tacky desktop Christmas tree – but this is perhaps a more practical use than what I’m used to. Good thinking!@
that is so awesome Larry I’d love to see your Tree made with plumbers pipe!
Just came across your project and I love it! I’m totally loving the industrial look too!
Awesome job, Dria! I love your paper towel holder. It looks like it came from Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware (do they sell paper towel holders? LOL) – and you make it look so easy to make. Love it!
Oh gosh Dria. I love your kitchen and all of your industrial touches. I love both projects. So nicely done, thanks for sharing!
Love it, Dria! I love Taryn’s style too, and you recreated it perfectly! XO
Too cool! I loved your other pipe projects and this is one I can do easily! Awesome choice for a project this month!
Dria, I love this! I’m gonna make one for the workshop! Plus a frame one for our mantel. Thanks for the tour!
Such a clever idea! Thanks for sharing the tutorial with us!
Dria, These are great ideas. I love the paper towel holder.
What an awesome idea! When I show this to my husband, I know that he is going to want to make a few of these for gifts.
