I was asked to make some golf ball ornaments for a local Country Club, for one of their Christmas trees. This golf ball tree went in their Players Lounge. I thought the idea was really cute but wasn’t sure how I was going to convert the golf balls into ornaments. I was afraid if I hot glued strings onto the balls, that eventually the weight of the golf balls would pull off from the strings. So I crossed my fingers and hoped drilling into the balls would work.
Yes these are used golf balls, they are the real thing! Clorox wipes got them clean.
The day I made these a friend had stopped over, lucky for me, I had him test the drilling out, hey if you come over while I’m DIYing, you get recruited into the project!. So while I cleaned the golf balls he drilled them.
We used eye hooks after drilling the holes. I’m not sure how many golf ball ornaments we made but the whole project took less than an hour to do. So if you ever wanted to make golf balls into ornaments give it a go, it was super easy!
Unfortunately the day I went to take photos of the tree, after it had been decorated, it was extremely overcast so I couldn’t get great photos 🙁
I think the tree came out cute and it’s the perfect decor for the Country Club! They used some score cards with the golf balls on the tree as well as some of my embroidery hoop ornaments I made this year.
