I made this sunburst mirror (aka star burst mirror) for a total of $6.00 and what’s even more amazing is the white points are poster board! See how I made this below!
To make this you will need a mirror, poster board and hot glue. If your poster board is smooth on one side and glossy on the other make sure you use the same side up. Test your poster board to see which direction the board bends easier, I didn’t test mine and ended up cutting it top to bottom instead of side to side, had I cut the strips side to side it would have been much easier to fold the strips, so save yourself a headache and test which direction the board folds easier and cut the strips in that direction!
I used computer paper for a template, folded the paper in half length wise, free handed a pattern, then cut the top part off. I made the strips a little over 4″ wide, I determined the width by the size mirror I used. You can cut your strips any width you’d like! Once I had all the strips cut I folded each one and used my template to draw at the top where you make the curve (it’s easier to cut if the template is folded that way each side will be the same).
Once I had all my strips cut I started placing them on the mirror via hot glue. I worked in sections of 4’s. The first 4 were put on in the north, south, east & west directions, the next set of 4’s I left a little longer then the first set and placed one between each of the first 4. The rest of the strips that were used were left a little longer then the second set and glued onto the mirror. It’s that simple!!
Here is the mirror up on the bedroom wall!
Sorry for the quality of the pics 😉 my cell doesn’t take the best photos!
I wish I could say I thought this up all on my own but I didn’t 😉 I saw this done on the nester’s website here
This mirror project inspired me to make other mirrors so check back for updates!
