If you remember a few weeks ago Olympic Paint & Stain sent myself and three other bloggers to the Good Housekeeping Labs in Manhattan, NY to see what goes on #BehindTheSeal (for those who missed it you can read more here).  Part of partnering with Olympic Paint & Stain is to test out some of their products.  For this project I used their Premium Deck Cleaner and Maximum Stain on my deck.

My deck was in rough shape.  The old stain was badly faded/worn off and green mildew started growing on the deck and house. It was time to see if Olympic’s deck cleaner and stain were #uptothetest!

Olympic Premium Deck Cleaner Features:

  • Penetrates deep into the wood and lifts dirt to the surface to be rinsed away
  • Simply apply, let sit for five to 10 minutes, then rinse off
  • Ready to use
  • No scrubbing required
  • Biodegradable

Using the Olympic Premium Deck Cleaner could not have been easier.  You simply apply the cleaner with an garden sprayer (Olympic has sprayers here) let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes then wash it off. It’s that simple!  I did NOT have to use any elbow grease removing the dirt and mildew.  I not only used the deck cleaner on my deck, but I also used it on my vinyl siding, the stone wall and concrete stones.  Last year when I tried removing the mildew off the side of my house with a power washer, it took about an hour to get a 2′ section somewhat clean.  I ended up having to use bleach and a scrub brush and a lot of elbow grease.  This year with the Premium Deck Cleaner, I just sprayed it on, waited the allotted time and washed it off with a hose.  NO scrubbing at all!

One of my neighbors watched how easy it was for me using the Olympic Deck Cleaner.  She then went to Lowes and bought two containers for her own deck.  She even helped wash the cleaner off of my deck before she went to buy her own!  I will never use anything else except for Olympic Premium Deck Cleaner going forward to wash my house, deck and rock walls.  Why spend a day scrubbing and having it take literally the whole day when I can just spray this on, sit and chat with my neighbor for 10 minutes, then rinse it all off?

Here you can see the before and after using the deck cleaner!

After my deck dried (I had to wait a few days due to rain), I stained the deck using Olympic Maximum Stain. I chose a semi transparent stain in the color espresso.  You can see all their stain colors here.

Olympic Maximum Stain Features:

  • Enhanced waterproofing protection
  • Advanced SunBlock® UV defense
  • Extends color life
  • Exclusive Scuff Guard® technology
  • Provides our best mildew resistant coating
  • Backed by the Good Housekeeping Seal

I applied the stain using a stain pad.  It took about 2 hours to stain my whole deck.  Again, my neighbor wanted to help me (her way of testing out the product before buying it for her own home!  She’s the best neighbor and friend you could ask for!).  While I cut in with a brush around the perimeter and stained the stairs, my neighbor used the stain pad and started staining the middle.  When I finished cutting in, we took turns staining the center boards.  The stain dries very fast.  I was nervous because about 6 hours after we finished staining, we had a light rain, but it didn’t affect the deck.  Thank goodness!!  I was also hesitant to walk on the deck too soon, but I had to take my dog out and sure enough it was dry enough for us to walk on after a few hours.

Here you can see the before and after staining!

I love how clean and fresh my deck looks now that it is finished with the staining process.  The flooring looks so nice, it’s making my deck furniture look pale in comparison. I might need to upgrade the furniture to keep up with how nice the decking looks!

A few more photos to enjoy!

Cutest dog in the world enjoying the new deck (I’m not biased much lol)

Now if only I could figure out a way to get the trees to stop dropping their pine needles!  If you have a deck that needs a good stain job, give Olympic Premium Deck Cleaner and Maximum Stain a try.  I certainly will use these products again and again!

In my opinion Olympic Maximum Stain and Premium Deck Cleaner are both #uptothetest!  I really could not ask for more from a product as far as ease of use goes these both went far beyond my expectations!

Don’t forget to follow along with my fellow bloggers who are testing out Olympic Products as well!  And be sure to check back with me as I will be reviewing Olympic One Paint next month!  You definitely do not want to miss that room makeover!
